UNIBEN TEAM MEETS WITH OFFICERS OF NIGERIAN ARMY CORPS OF MILITARY POLICE TO NEGOTIATE RENEWAL OF MOU ON FORENSIC TRAINING
A four- man Uniben team, put together by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, has met with officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police in Abuja to negotiate the renewal of the MOU on forensic training ahead of expiration of the first cycle of five years.
Leader of the team and Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Professor Christopher Osubor, commended the Army Command for the confidence in the University of Benin to train its officers in Forensics and DNA studies. He said the cordial relationship between the officers and other members of the Uniben community has strengthened the bond between the two institutions and conveyed the Vice Chancellor’s desire that such seamless relationship should continue.
Director of the Centre for Forensic and DNA Studies, Professor Eddy Ehikhamenor, outlined some of the objectives of the training as building the capacity of the Army to develop a National database for research and crime investigations and possession of a platform for Forensic screening for all purposes especially during pandemics. He said so far, five batches of military men have been trained at the Centre adding that the importance of the scientific programme cannot be over emphasised.
The Provost Marshall, Army Corps of Military Police, Major General Abubakar Garuba, who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Brigadier General A.G. Abubakar, acknowledged the importance of forensic and DNA as invaluable skills that the army is proud for its officers to acquire. He announced that those trained so far at the University of Benin have put their training to good use at the Defence Headquarters and was optimistic that the army will continue to take advantage of the synergy between the establishments.
Other senior officers of the Corps were present at the meeting.
