NFA Responds to Debmarine Statement The Namibia Football Association (NFA) has responded to a statement that was made by Debmarine Namibia CEO, Willy Mertens, where among other things, he stated ,”We at Debmarine Namibia, as a sponsor certainly did not feel respected and valued by the NFA leadership especially over the past two years.” In response released this afternoon, the NFA stated that the remarks were “surprising and regrettable” and that Debmarine should have exercised the “contractual framework for protocol of internal engagement” to express its views. “While we, at NFA values our partnership with Debmarine Namibia, certain assertions made by Mr. Mertens misrepresents the character and stature of the Association. Left unaddressed, these inaccuracies risk unjustly tarnishing the NFA’s reputation and the upward trajectory of Namibia football,” said Cassius Moetie, NFA’s Interim General Secretary. Moetie labelled the statement from Mertens as “below the belt.” Moetie also denied Mertens’ claim that no NFA leadership was present at the final day of the season, where African Stars was officially awarded the league title.
