Hi Mama. Sending you a text in case you can’t listen to my voicenote. I’m safe, Ibra is safe. We followed the crowds out of town, and now we’re walking down this long, dusty road. It’s quiet. I don’t know where we’re going. There’s maybe a hundred of us. I’m scared, Mama. Ibra is asking me where you are but I don’t know what to tell him. Where are you, Mama? Are you safe? Is your back okay? It’s almost dark, you can see the moon, it looks so big, it looks so close. Have you taken your medication? I don’t know where we are, and my phone is running out of batteries… I’ve written your number on my arm, and I’m teaching Ibra the song you used to sing to us, the one to teach us our numbers on the way to school, so he doesn’t forget. How will I let you know where we are? Where we end up? Follow the moon, Mama, that’s where we’re headed. I could send my live location too, but then my phone will die quicker… I’m sorry, Mama, I’m not sure what to do. Please Mama, let me know you’re ok. God be with you xx
