Guidance and Encouragement In Treating Long-Term Spiritual Affliction
Question: Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allāh be upon you. Please help me — may Allāh bless you. After more than 20 years, I have come to know this year that I am afflicted by a black revenge spell given to me in a sweet I ate. It destroyed my self-confidence, and unfortunately, I cannot complete my work. I live with doubts and delusions, I hold grudges against my family and avoid them. I also suffer from old envy affecting me. I am 37 years old and still unmarried. I consistently pray and recite supplications, but my mental state prevents me from mingling with others. When I sit with people, I cannot focus or speak properly, and if I do speak, I regret it because I say wrong things. I have been in this condition for over 20 years. May Allāh help you to be the cause of my healing. May my Lord relieve your distress and improve your faith and condition and reward you greatly. My financial situation is difficult. I went to a rāqi who charged fees for sessions, oils, water, and other costs, which I could not afford given my situation. May Allāh ease for me the money to spend on my family and rent. Sometimes debts accumulate. Please do not withhold your advice or any treatment available to me. I pray that Allāh removes all harm from you and your family and opens for you the doors of His grace and mercy.
Answer: Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allāh be upon you likewise. I ask Allāh, the Almighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to heal you, relieve your worries and sadness, open for you doors of ease, and provide for you from sources you do not expect.
First: My advice to rāqis is to fear Allāh regarding the ailments of Muslims and not to burden them beyond what they can bear. What the questioner described about his condition is heart-breaking and painful. What if they performed ruqyah sincerely for Allāh’s sake and relieved his distress — that would be far better for them.
Second: Dear brother, may Allāh protect and heal you, take care of yourself and avoid rāqis whose main concern is money.
You should turn to the Book of Allāh, the Qur'ān. Reading the Qur'ān daily, even large portions, is the greatest medicine for a believer.
Do not pay attention to the whispers, doubts, and the state you are in. Seek help from Allāh and do not despair.
Speak to people normally and do not worry about the devil’s whispers; seek refuge in Allāh from him. Recite this prayer:
﴿رب اشرح لي صدري * ويسر لي أمري * واحلل عقدة من لساني * يفقهوا قولي﴾
"My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance] and ease for me my task, And untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech"
((واهدِ قلبي وسَدِّدْ لساني واسْلُلْ سَخِيمَةَ قلبي))
"Guide my heart, make my tongue truthful, and soften the harshness of my heart."
Wash yourself with ruqyah water, increase in seeking forgiveness, praising Allāh, saying tasbih (glorification), tahleel (declaring La ilaha illallah), and takbeer (saying Allahu Akbar).
لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله
"There is no power or might except through Allāh."
Know, my brother, that we all stumble in speech and make mistakes. The devil whispers to us, "You made a mistake, you stuttered," but we say to him, "None of your business, we make mistakes a thousand times a day and seek refuge from your evil," and by Allāh’s grace, it does not affect us.
So remain strong with Allāh, hold firmly to His rope, and trust Him. He only tests you to raise your rank and erase your sins. Thank Allāh for everything, in good times and bad, for all is good for you.
