𝟮𝟭 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟵𝟲𝟬: 𝗖𝗹𝘆𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗿𝘆 – 𝗔 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝘀 On this day, 437 miners lost their lives in what remains 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. The catastrophic collapse of underground support pillars at the Clydesdale Colliery in Coalbrook, near Sasolburg in the Free State province of South Africa, spanned an estimated 3,000 hectares, with approximately 900 pillars giving way. The miners, trapped 180 meters beneath the surface, never made it out alive. Due to the immense scale of the collapse and the unstable conditions underground, their bodies were never recovered.
