*PRESS RELEASE* May 21, 2025 Ref.no: 0113-2025/I&P-ITAC The Indigenous Tribes Advocacy Committee (ITAC), Pherzawl & Jiribam, convened a public consultation at Parbung, Pherzawl District, on 20th May 2025. Leaders of all civil society organizations (CSOs), including the Hmar Inpui and village authorities from the region and the jurisdictional SoO group, participated in the consultation with renewed resilience and a spirit of awakening. The resolutions passed by public leaders of Pherzawl and Jiribam on 9th August 2024 were reaffirmed: (a) ITAC and the tribal communities of Pherzawl and Jiribam will, under no circumstances, cooperate with any platform, organization, or forum that promotes the exclusion of the Hmar nomenclature or opposes its inclusion in any form. In this context, ITAC and the tribal communities of the region shall not be held accountable for any actions taken in response to such platforms, organizations, or forums acting against the will of the indigenous tribal communities of Pherzawl and Jiribam. (b) The aspiration for the creation of a Hmar homeland and self-rule in Hmar-dominated areas, including Pherzawl and Jiribam, as enshrined under the Constitution of India since 1953, continues to live on in the hearts of the Hmar people. In light of this enduring aspiration, any attempt to undermine, exclude, or disregard the Hmar nomenclature and the interests of the community will not be accepted. (c) ITAC, in close coordination with the the jurisdictional SoO group, and the concerned MLA of Pherzawl District, will continue to lead all forms of dialogue and negotiations that determine the future of the people of Pherzawl District and the indigenous tribal communities of Jiribam District.
