Did you know?
The word "goodbye" is actually a contraction of the phrase "God be with ye."
Over time, it was shortened and transformed into the word we now use every day when parting.
Example:
“Goodbye, my friend! See you tomorrow.”
Bonus Tip:
Similar to "goodbye," other old phrases got shortened in modern English, like:
"Farewell" = “May you fare well.”
"Goodnight" = “Have a good night.”
