• stress
• during cargo operations mishandled by operators during closing
• while closing surrounding wasn’t checked due to negligence it might have struck something.
*Actions*
Proper assessment to check how big the crack is does is affect the weather/water tight integrity.
Company/ class is informed of the damage
If in port asked for shore assistance for welding the crack by class approved welders.
At sea, checked for suitable plate and asked permission from class to weld or make a doubler as temporary measure until next port.
If crack is small might be covered with cement or other material like tarpaulin to secure against sea/weather.
