In Zimbabwe, you or your relatives can still receive free blood transfusions if you meet certain criteria as a regular blood donor. To qualify, you must have made 10 donations in the past year, be under 21 with at least 5 regular donations, or have made 25 donations in the past but are no longer a donor. Additionally, if you've made 10 donations but can no longer donate for medical reasons, you may qualify too. As you can imagine, very few people meet these requirements. To truly address the blood crisis, we need to focus on reducing the cost of blood storage and increasing donations. This will improve supply and make blood transfusions affordable, as currently, it's beyond the reach of 90% of Zimbabweans.
