🟨 OPEN LETTER TO KENYA'S YOUTH: PROTESTS WITHOUT STRATEGY HURT US MOST I write this letter laughing and crying at the same time, watching what’s happening in our Central Business District (CBD). And I have to ask: Do we really understand where this road leads? Take a moment and think about Haiti. Once the first Black republic, today it is a nation overrun by gangs, with no functioning government and a people left to suffer in silence. Or look at the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), rich in minerals but poor in peace, where millions have died in forgotten wars. Libya, once Africa’s wealthiest nation, is now fractured, lawless, and haunted by the ghosts of what could have been. Anarchy doesn’t happen overnight. It creeps in—through chaos, poor leadership, disorganized protests, and an angry generation with no plan. --- 🔥 Who Suffers Most? It’s not the politicians. It’s you. Not Ruto. Not Raila. Not Kindiki. Not Lagat. It’s the youth. It’s the mama mboga trying to feed her kids. It’s the construction worker who can’t get to the site. It’s the small business owner whose shop gets looted. Last week, three of our workers were injured during the unrest. One is still admitted at Mbagathi Hospital with a neck injury. Today, we had to give staff a day off—not because we could afford to, but because we knew the risks were too high. We had to halt ongoing projects, losing both time and money. Night shifts had to compensate, at double cost. Who bears that cost? We all do. --- 🧨 These Protests Lack Form Yes, protest is a right. But what we see today is not strategic protest—it’s chaotic, violent, and unproductive. Where is the organization? Where are the marshals to control the crowds? Who is securing non-protesters from looters? Is the protest route shared with the police? Is there a goal beyond just disruption? Clapping for protests that cause destruction is clapping for your own downfall. --- 💸 The Economic Cost is Real Destruction of property. Theft. Vandalism. Paralysis of businesses. Decline in sales. Loss of income. Missed loan repayments. We are slowly breaking the very economy we depend on to survive. Activists will go home with their pay. Politicians will return to their gated homes. The rest of us will be left with broken windows, broken bones, and broken dreams. --- ✊🏾 Protest With Purpose—Not Destruction I’m not saying don’t protest. I’m saying: Be smart about it. Protest with strategy. Protest with a plan. Protest peacefully. Submit protest routes in advance. Ask for police protection. Ensure fellow Kenyans are not victims of your cause. Call out and isolate those with criminal motives. Otherwise, I foresee a day when protests will be banned entirely from CBDs—and we’ll only have ourselves to blame. --- 🛑 To My Fellow Gen-Zs: You’re powerful. You’re aware. But power without strategy is just noise. Don’t let yourselves be used as pawns in selfish political games. Let us evolve how we protest. Let us protect the very nation we want to fix. Kenya is still ours to save—but only if we choose wisely. Sincerely, A concerned Kenyan, employer, and citizen.
