HDFC Credit Card Changes – Effective 1st July 🧵
HDFC is updating charges and reward rules across categories starting July 1.
Some changes may feel small, others could hit your wallet hard 💸
Here’s a clear breakdown of what’s changing 👇
1️⃣ Online Gaming Spends
🎮 Dream11, MPL, etc.
📈 1% fee on spends above ₹10K/month
❌ No reward points
🔒 Fee capped at ₹4,999/month
High spenders on fantasy/skill-based games, take note.
2️⃣ Wallet Loads
💼 PayTM, Mobikwik, Amazon Pay, etc.
📈 1% fee on loads above ₹10K/month
🔒 Fee capped at ₹4,999/month
❌ No reward points
No longer free to use your credit card to top up wallets heavily.
3️⃣ Utility Bill Payments
💡 Electricity, broadband, etc.
🧾 Fee remains 1% above:
₹50K (consumer) / ₹75K (biz)
📈 Max fee increased from ₹3,000 to ₹4,999/month
❌ Insurance excluded
Paying big bills? Expect a higher fee cap now.
4️⃣ Rent Payments
🏠 1% fee continues
📈 Max fee per transaction increased to ₹4,999 (from ₹3,000)
Big rent = bigger fees if you’re using a credit card.
5️⃣ Fuel Transactions
⛽ Still a 1% fee on high-value spends
📉 Thresholds stay the same:
₹15K (consumer), ₹30K (biz)
📈 Max fee per txn now ₹4,999
A hit for those who fill large fuel tanks often.
6️⃣ Education Payments
🎓 1% fee applies via 3rd-party apps
📈 Max fee per txn now ₹4,999 (was ₹3,000)
✅ Payments made directly to institutions are still fee-free
Go direct to save that 1%.
7️⃣ Insurance Reward Points
⛑️ Points now tracked monthly instead of daily
✅ New monthly caps:
• Infinia: 10K pts
• DCB / Biz Black: 5K pts
• Others: 2K pts
