Deputy Minister Engages with Municipality on District Development Model The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Hon Zolile Burns-Ncamashe, today visited the Mbhashe Local Municipality for a District Development Model (DDM) engagement. The meeting brought together stakeholders to discuss progress, challenges, and solutions for integrated development. The Municipal Manager, Mr Mkhululi Nako, presented the municipality's progress, highlighting strong partnerships with national and provincial departments. The municipality has made significant strides in implementing its One Plans, which aim to harmonize municipal plans with provincial and national objectives. Top priorities for the municipality include addressing municipal debt, enhancing revenue collection, and improving basic services. However, challenges such as land claims, debts owed by government departments, and infrastructure gaps require urgent attention. The Executive Mayor, Cllr Samkelo Janda, welcomed the Deputy Minister's presence, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between government spheres, communities, and social partners. In his closing remarks, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to supporting the municipality, stating that it is their collective responsibility to improve the lives of residents. The engagement aimed to breathe life into the DDM, accelerating integrated, responsive, and people-centered service delivery. The Deputy Minister's visit demonstrates the government's commitment to collaborative governance and people-centered development, ensuring that municipalities like this one can achieve their full potential for the benefit of all residents.
