India's gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections rose by 16.4% year-on-year, reaching ₹2.01 lakh crore. This marks the second consecutive month where collections have surpassed the ₹2 lakh crore mark, indicating robust economic activity and improved tax compliance. The surge is largely attributed to a 25% increase in revenue from imports, reflecting strong import demand. Despite a slight decline from April's record-high collections, the May figures represent the fastest growth rate since October 2022, signaling a strong start to the fiscal year 2025-26.
