Job Title: Senior Mechanical Fitter / Field Supervisor
Location: Harare, Zimbabwe (with frequent travel to client sites across Zimbabwe and potentially Southern Africa)

Role Summary: Gavv Engineering is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Fitter / Field Supervisor to lead our on-site mechanical service teams. This pivotal role involves overseeing the execution of specialized mechanical services, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship, safety, and efficiency. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader, adept at troubleshooting complex mechanical failures, executing precision repairs, and effectively supervising field operations, directly contributing to our clients' asset reliability and operational success.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Supervision & Leadership:
Lead and supervise small to medium-sized field teams during mechanical installation, maintenance, and repair projects at client sites.
Allocate tasks, monitor progress, and ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.
Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to junior fitters and technicians.
Specialized Mechanical Service Execution:
Perform and supervise precision mechanical fitting tasks, including but not limited to:
Installation and alignment of rotating equipment (pumps, motors, gearboxes, fans) using laser alignment tools.
Overhaul, repair, and assembly of complex mechanical components (e.g., pumps, gearboxes, crushers, grinding mills).
Troubleshooting and rectifying hydraulic and pneumatic system faults on heavy machinery.
Inspection, repair, and splicing of conveyor belts and related components.
Installation and maintenance of mechanical seal systems.
Diagnosis and repair of heavy mobile mining and construction equipment.
Interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and maintenance manuals accurately.
Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:
Utilize advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., vibration analysis equipment, thermal cameras, ultrasonic detectors) and techniques to identify root causes of mechanical failures.
Develop and implement effective on-site solutions to complex mechanical problems.
Quality Assurance & Safety:
Ensure all mechanical work is performed to Gavv Engineering's stringent quality standards and client specifications.
Enforce strict adherence to all Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) policies and procedures on-site.
Conduct pre-task planning and risk assessments for all field activities.
Reporting & Communication:
Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and equipment status.
Provide regular, clear, and concise updates on project progress, challenges, and completion to Project Managers and clients.
Communicate effectively with client personnel, engineers, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience:
National Certificate/Diploma in Fitting & Turning, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 8-10 years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical Fitter/Technician in heavy industrial environments (e.g., mining, power generation, manufacturing, process plants).
At least 3-5 years of proven experience in a supervisory or team lead role in a field service or maintenance setting.
Demonstrable experience with precision alignment (laser alignment preferred), bearing replacement, and mechanical seal installation.
Experience with heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, drill rigs, crushers, grinding mills, conveyor systems) is highly advantageous.
Proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively.
