🚨*SUMMARY OF CHAIRMAN WONTUMI’s ARREST*❕
On May 23, 2025, National Security and police attempted to arrest Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, at his Kumasi home for illegal mining, polluting water bodies, and unauthorized forest reserve entry.
His security blocked the raid, but he agreed to report to the police. Wontumi, a key New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure, called it political persecution by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
On May 26, he faced formal charges at the Criminal Investigations Department, cooperated, and was granted bail. However, on May 27, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) detained him for further questioning, during which he fell ill and was hospitalized, raising concerns about his treatment.
By May 28, EOCO granted bail with strict conditions, including a GHS 50 million bond and two sureties, but Wontumi remained in custody as these were unmet, with legal proceedings ongoing.
