*𝗩𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗿𝗶𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 – 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗴 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀* Maktal MLA Vakiti Srihari has officially joined the Telangana state cabinet and taken charge as the Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries. This move has brought new hope among the state’s fishermen and fish farmers, who are expecting fresh changes and real support for the growing aquaculture sector. Shri Srihari, a native of Maktal in Narayanpet district, is known for staying connected with people and understanding their ground-level issues. After winning the 2023 Assembly Elections as a Congress candidate, he became the MLA of Maktal. Now, as the new Fisheries Minister, people believe that his practical knowledge of fishing will help in solving many long-pending issues. 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗮’𝘀 𝗔𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗣𝘂𝘀𝗵 Though fish farming in Telangana has picked up in recent years, many challenges still remain. Fishermen and aqua farmers across the state are hoping that the new minister will work on the following key issues: Simplify permission process for small farmers to start fish farming Promote modern methods like biofloc and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) Build direct fish markets to help farmers sell without middlemen Compensation for losses caused by climate change, especially during pond drying Set up fish processing units in rural areas to generate jobs, especially for women Provide fish feed at subsidised rates for small and marginal farmers Stop fake seeds – More certified nurseries and hatcheries needed 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀.𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝘆𝘀 Fisheries.News believes that Telangana has great potential to become a model state in aquaculture, but only if key gaps like seed quality, market access, and local infrastructure are addressed.
