Jonah Kariuki, the father of Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, the young mask vendor who was shot during the Albert Ojwang protests in Nairobi CBD, is now facing another devastating blow. After watching his son fight for his life in hospital, he has now lost KSh 200,000 to conmen who posed as officials from the Social Health Authority (SHA). According to sources, the fraudsters approached them with promises to help clear Boniface’s hospital bills. Trusting that these were genuine offers of support from government-linked bodies, Jonah sent them the money in good faith. Sadly, the so-called officials disappeared without a trace after receiving the funds.
