_Minister Chadzamira Addresses Chiefs on HIV/AIDS Awareness in Masvingo_ *By Tafara Pande* Masvingo - The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Ezra R. Chadzamira, recently addressed a gathering of traditional Chiefs at Clevers Hotel in Masvingo, in a workshop organized by the National AIDS Council. The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration between government and traditional leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Minister Chadzamira emphasized the pivotal role Chiefs play in shaping societal norms. He noted that by equipping them with up-to-date information on HIV/AIDS, the government is enabling them to lead grassroots awareness campaigns. The Minister encouraged the Chiefs to be ambassadors of change, promoting safe practices and encouraging community members to get tested and seek treatment. Acknowledging persistent stigma around HIV testing especially among youth the Minister called on Chiefs to spearhead efforts to normalize conversations around the disease. He stressed that cultural leaders are uniquely positioned to challenge misconceptions and encourage openness. The Minister urged Chiefs to actively engage schools, churches, and local gatherings, using their influence to promote HIV/AIDS education. He appealed to them to collaborate with local health institutions and NGOs to amplify their reach and impact. The meeting marked a significant step in Masvingo Province’s response to HIV/AIDS. Through partnerships with traditional leaders, the government aims to foster healthier, more informed communities.
