Masvingo - A City of Masvingo health delegation, led by Director of Health Services Ms. Suzanne Hazel Madamombe and acting matron Sister Maredza, today conducted an inspection tour of critical health infrastructure projects at North West Medical Centre in Ward 2 Masvingo West Constituency and Runyararo Clinic in Ward 6, Masvingo Urban Constituency.
The purpose of the tour was to assess the progress and quality of construction works currently underway, including the installation of a biodigester, a new maternity wing, and a modern kitchen facility key components in improving service delivery and environmental sustainability at the two health centres.
Speaking on-site, Ms. Madamombe noted that the biodigester system, which will convert organic waste into methane gas, is a major step toward sustainable energy use. “This gas will power the incinerator and kitchen, reducing energy costs and enhancing our waste management processes,” she said.
The newly planned kitchen facility is expected to significantly improve nutrition delivery for patients, especially maternity and long-stay cases. The addition of the maternity wing at Runyararo Clinic, she added, “will expand access to quality maternal healthcare, reduce congestion, and ensure safe deliveries in a dignified environment.”
The health team also reviewed general site conditions, safety compliance, and the greening of the clinic environment, a campaign aimed at improving patient well-being through cleaner and more natural surroundings.
Residents in Masvingo West have welcomed the upgrades, with expectations high for improved healthcare access and service standards. As construction progresses, the Health Department pledged continuous monitoring to ensure timely completion and adherence to national health infrastructure benchmarks.
