JAMB TO SANCTION 11 CBT CENTERS OVER BIOMETRIC FRAUD
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recommended disciplinary measures against 11 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and multiple candidates over biometric fraud during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, announced the proposed sanctions during a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that the penalties are subject to approval by the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa.
According to Oloyede, any registrant linked to over 50 biometric infractions will face a three-year ban from all JAMB, WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB activities. Afterward, cases may be reviewed for possible reinstatement if remorse is shown.
Candidates involved in fewer than 50 irregularities will be issued a warning and must submit a written apology along with an undertaking to desist from future violations.
For the implicated CBT centres, JAMB has mandated that operators sign a bond of ethical compliance and provide certified evidence of staff training by a federal university. The Board will only re-engage with these centres upon meeting these requirements.
Oloyede emphasized that excuses from defaulting centres will no longer be tolerated. Those affiliated with government institutions may face additional disciplinary measures from appropriate authorities.
At the meeting, several candidates and CBT operators admitted to the infractions, citing ignorance and pressure to meet registration quotas. Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, present at the session, described the violations as criminal, warning of potential prosecutions. However, he urged the Board to consider leniency for first-time offenders.
Bashir Gumel, representing Jicoras CBT Centre in Jigawa, said the centre had begun internal investigations and promised to prevent future breaches.
Affected Centres Include:
Misau Emirate ICT Centre, Bauchi
Ijaw National Academy, Bayelsa
Nigerian Army University ICT Directorate, Gombe
Emerald IT Academy, Edo
Tigh Technologies (Sascon International School), Abuja
Jicoras CBT Centre, Jigawa
Huntsville Technology Ltd, Lagos
Jolas College CBT Centre, Lagos
Abdul Ocean Weath CBT Centre, Oyo
National Open University (NOUN), Plateau
Consulate Salle D’Examen CBT Centre, Rivers
Prof. Oloyede reaffirmed JAMB’s zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice, vowing strict enforcement to protect the integrity of its examinations.
