Allah says in surah al-Dhariyat [51]: [وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ] _And I only created Jinn-kind and mankind to worship Me_ [56] Commenting on this, al-Qurtubi wrote: [وعن الكلبي أيضا : إلا ليوحدون ، فأما المؤمن فيوحده في الشدة والرخاء ، وأما الكافر فيوحده في الشدة والبلاء دون النعمة والرخاء ; يدل عليه قوله تعالى : وإذا غشيهم موج كالظلل دعوا الله مخلصين له الدين الآية] Al-Kalbi said: *Only to single Me out for worship. As for the believers, they single Him out in worship both in times of difficulty and ease.
