*CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: APPOINTMENT OF CENTRAL DRUG AUTHORITY (CDA) MEMBERS* Pretoria, 18 June 2025: The Minister of Social Development, Ms Nokuzola Sisisi Tolashe, invites nominations for the appointment of new members to serve on the Central Drug Authority (CDA). This is a call to individuals and stakeholders to nominate suitably qualified and experienced candidates who are committed to supporting the national fight against substance abuse. The CDA plays a pivotal role in advising the Minister and government on strategies to combat substance use and abuse in South Africa. It is also mandated to implement and give effect to the National Drug Master Plan through coordination and promotion of initiatives related to prevention, treatment, and reintegration. Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for appointment, nominated candidates must: • Hold a National Qualification Framework (NQF) Level 7 qualification (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent). • Have a minimum of five years’ experience in one or more of the following areas within the field of substance abuse: o Research o Prevention Services o Early Intervention Services o Treatment Services o Reintegration Services o Aftercare Services o Law Enforcement o Medico-Pharmacology o Monitoring, Evaluation, and Impact Assessment Please Note: Nominations without the required qualifications will not be considered. Composition and Term: The CDA comprises 34 members, of which 21 are appointed from government departments, and 13 are appointed by the Minister based on public nominations. The term of office for members is determined by the Minister and may not exceed five years. The current CDA members’ term expires in March 2026. The 21 government departments represented on the CDA include: Social Development; Sports, Arts and Culture; Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development; Correctional Services; Basic Education; Higher Education and Training; International Relations and Cooperation; Health; Medicines Control Council; Home Affairs; Justice and Constitutional Development; Employment and Labour; National Treasury; National Prosecuting Authority; National Youth Development Agency; South African Police Service; South African Revenue Service; Trade, Industry and Competition; Small Business Development; Transport; and Border Management Authority. Nomination Process: Nomination forms can be collected from the Department of Social Development at the address provided below. All nominations must include: • A completed nomination form, • A comprehensive CV of the nominee, • And must be submitted by no later than 30 June 2025. Incomplete or late nominations will not be accepted. A list of qualifying candidates will be submitted to Parliament for shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed, and Parliament will recommend 13 individuals for appointment to the Minister.
