*Senate probes NNPCL over N210tn Audit discrepancy*
The Senate has issued a one-week deadline to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to explain financial discrepancies amounting to over N210 trillion in its audited financial statements spanning 2017 to 2023.
The ultimatum was handed down on Wednesday during a tense session of the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, where NNPCL’s Chief Financial Officer, Dapo Segun, appeared alongside external auditors to respond to queries.
Lawmakers expressed displeasure over what they described as glaring irregularities in figures listed under accrued expenses and receivables in the company’s financial reports. Committee Chairman, Senator Aliyu Wadada, described the inconsistencies as “unacceptable,” warning that the Senate would not hesitate to invoke its full oversight powers to demand accountability.
