U.S. Department of State - Security Updates for U.S. Citizens
June 20, 2025 at 07:28 PM
Jordan: We have no announcement about assisting private U.S. citizens to depart Jordan at this time. The Department of State is always planning for contingencies to assist with private U.S. citizens’ departure from crisis areas. We will alert the U.S. citizen community if there is additional information to share regarding departure options.
Information on Entry into Jordan:
Land crossings are closed on Saturday, June 21.
Israel charges an exit tax on all U.S. citizen visitors of $180. This is payable in U.S. dollars, Israeli shekels, or credit card.
A passport with a validity of at least six months is required for entry into Jordan.
Jordanian visas are required for U.S. citizens for travel to Jordan.
Taxis and buses to Amman are available at all border crossings.
Visa on arrival is available at the northern and southern crossings. Cost is 40 JOD/$56. Credit card machines are available but not always functioning, so cash is preferred.
For those crossing the Allenby/King Hussein Bridge, an E-visa is mandatory before crossing: https://eservices.moi.gov.jo.
Queen Alia International Airport maintains a live update of all departures: https://qaiairport.com/en/flight-information/Pages/Departures.aspx
