The move comes after backlash over expanding the levyโ€™s mandate without consultation. Under a new deal, funds used for markets will be refunded to the housing levy, and salaried workersโ€”who contribute to the fundโ€”will be prioritized in housing allocations. The mandatory deposit for a unit has also been slashed from 10% to 5%. A joint oversight committee will now ensure that levy funds are used strictly for infrastructure within housing projects, not unrelated developments like police stations or social halls.
