The MBS is inviting applications from suitably qualified and interested persons to fill the following vacancies: 1) Vac. No. BS/EXT.VAC. 03/2025/2026 Job title: Deputy Director of Testing Services (Engineering Technology) Grade: BS4 Reporting to: Director of Testing Services Department: Testing Services Development Section/Division: Engineering Technology Responsible for: Senior Scientific Officers Number of posts : One 1) Job Purpose To provide headship and provide overall supervision for efficient provision of testing services. Key Roles and Responsibilities Planning and coordinating procurement of equipment and installation Verifying laboratory results; Training on the job laboratory personnel; Ensuring that appropriate equipment and consumables are adequately available all the times; Planning, organizing and coordinating work programs for the division Coordinating the preparation of divisional budget and presentation of the same to the Director, Monitoring and evaluating implementation of laboratory quality systems; Monitoring the implementation of the approved divisional budget; Consolidating progress reports; Appraising the performance of Senior Scientific Officer. Required Academic Qualifications and Experience A Master’s Degree in Applied Sciences/Engineering. At least 4 years’ practical experience at a Senior Scientific Officer level. 2) Vac. No. BS/EXT.VAC. 04/2025/2026 Job title: Planning Officer (Economist) Grade: BS6 Reporting to: Senior Corporate Planning Officer Department: DDG’s Office Section: Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Responsible for: None Number of posts: One (I) Job Purpose To facilitate strategic and operational planning processes in the Bureau Key Roles and Responsibilities Initiating the development and review of strategic plans, budgets, annual work-plans and performance contract; Developing or reviewing MBS policies and guidelines in liaison with relevant departments, Preparing and reviewing proposals for resource mobilization; Developing project proposals for the Bureau, Working closely with the managers of private or public organization and government agencies to know their needs and establish a scale of preference in the process; Providing technical inputs and analyses in the identification, design, development, processing. and evaluation of loan projects; Participating in the formulation of recommendations, plans, and policies which could be used to solve economic problems or issues of the Bureau, Developing economic procedures and plans which are used in forecasting trends and formulating policies. Required Academic Qualifications and Experience The applicant should possess A Bachelor of Social Sciences, Economics or Statistics. At least 3 years practical experience in related field. 3) Vac. No. BS/EXT.VAC. 05/2025/2026 Job title: Certification Officer (Factory Audit) Grade: BS6 Reporting to: Deputy Director of Quality Assurance Services Department: Quality Assurance Development Section: Factory Auditing Responsible for: Senior Certification Technician. Number of posts: Two (2) Job Purpose To ensure efficient and effective execution of factory quality audits. Key Roles and Responsibilities Coordinating the implementation of product quality audits according to schedules; Supervising receipt, verification and registration of certification samples; Tracking of certification samples, results and reports; Distributing certification sample laboratory test results; Analyzing and interpreting sample results; Developing work procedures, guidelines and instructions, Compling of weekly, monthly and quarterly progress and status reports; Conducting industrial quality audits; Conducting market surveillances; Conducting performance appraisal on Senior Certification Technicians (Products Audits); and Providing technical advice to the Senior Certification Officer on matters relating to product quality audits. Required Academic Qualifications and Experience The applicant should possess A Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences OR Engineering. At least 3 years’ industrial experience in quality assurance field. 4) Vac. No. BS/EXT.VAC. 16/2025/2026 Job title: Quality Monitoring Officer (inspection and Sampling) Grade: BS6 Reporting to : Deputy Director of Quality Assurance Services Department: Quality Assurance Development Section: Inspection and Sampling Responsible for : Senior Quality Monitoring Technician Number of posts: Two (2) Job Purpose To ensure efficient and effective implementation of inspection and sampling activities. Key Roles and Responsibilities Coordinating registration of inspection requests; Conducting industrial quality audits for product certification based on national and international requirements: Ensuring proper management of records related to export inspection and sampling: Providing technical advice to the Senior Quality Monitoring Officer on matters pertaining to inspection and sampling of exported products; Facilitating efficient inspection and sampling of products; Ensuring proper handling of all samples; Supervising the compilation of weekly, monthly and quarterly plans and progress reports; Conducting performance appraisals Quality Monitoring Officers. Required Academic Qualifications and Experience The applicant should possess: A Bachelor’s Degree in Natural related sciences At least 3 years’ experience Industrial experience. 5) Vac. No. BS/EXT.VAC.17/2025-26 Job title: Quality Monitoring Officer (Reporting) Grade: BS6 Reporting to : Deputy Director of Quality Assurance Services Department: Quality Assurance Development Section: Reporting Responsible for : Senior Quality Monitoring Technician Number of posts: One (1) Job Purpose To ensure efficient and effective implementation of imports and exports results Processing activities. Key Roles and Responsibilities Receiving and distributing imports and exports sample results for processing: Supervising the drafting process of imports and exports reports and certificates in line with set procedures; Supervising the dispatch process for reports, certificates and other documents in line with set procedures; Processing of annual imports certificates for clients; Supervising management of records related to the reporting process; Conducting industrial quality audits for product certification based on national and international requirements; Producing weekly, monthly and quarterly progress reports relating to the reporting process; Conducting quality monitoring market surveys; Providing technical advice to the Senior Quality Monitoring Officer (Reporting) on matters pertaining to inspection and sampling of imported products, and Conducting performance appraisals for Senior Quality Monitoring Technician. Required Academic Qualifications and Experience The applicant should possess Bachelor’s Degree in natural related sciences. At least 3 years’ industrial experience. 6) Vac. No. BS/EXT.VAC.18/2025-26 Job title: Standards Officer (Chemicals & Textiles) Grade: BS6 Reporting to: Senior Standards Officer (C&T) Department: Standards Development Division: Chemicals & Textiles Number of posts: One (1) Job Purpose To provide leadership and guidance in developing national standards and maintaining related information. Key Roles and Responsibilities Registering new standardization work items; Conducting information search pertaining to Standards writing activities; Preparing draft standards for consideration by Technical committees; Organizing technical Committee meetings: Providing secretarial services to Technical Committee meetings; Reviewing Malawi standards to keep them up to date with current trends; Preparing and submitting draft standards to Standardization, Quality Assurance, Accreditation and Metrology Committee (SOAMC), Preparing progress reports on quarterly basis, Updating technical committee membership; Advising SSO on matters pertaining to Standards development; and Participating in regional and international Standardization programs.
