*First Lady of Taraba State Leads Measles-Rubella Vaccine Awareness Campaign in Jalingo*
First Lady of Taraba State, Mrs. Agyin Kefas, is actively engaging with Primary Health Care stakeholders in Jalingo to promote the Measles-Rubella (MR) Vaccine Awareness and Sensitisation Campaign.
This initiative aims to increase community awareness and vaccine uptake to protect children against measles and rubella, diseases that remain a significant health threat despite the availability of effective vaccines.
Mrs. Kefas’s engagement aligns with ongoing efforts across Nigeria to boost immunization coverage, especially in high-risk states like Taraba.
The campaign is part of a broader national push, supported by the Federal Government and partners such as the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, WHO, and UNICEF, to reach over 4 million people in Taraba with lifesaving vaccines.
The First Lady’s involvement includes mobilizing community leaders, health workers, and women’s groups to ensure full coverage and dispel misinformation about the vaccine.
Her leadership reflects a commitment to strengthening routine immunization services and preventing outbreaks that have previously disrupted public health and education systems.
This campaign is crucial as Nigeria prepares for a nationwide rollout of the MR vaccine scheduled for October 2025, aiming for 95% coverage to achieve herd immunity and protect future generations from measles and rubella.
Mrs. Agyin Kefas’s efforts in Taraba complement the federal government’s health initiatives, including maternal and child health programs, reinforcing the importance of grassroots involvement in public health.
Through these combined efforts, Taraba State is making significant strides toward improving child health outcomes and safeguarding communities against vaccine-preventable diseases.
