*An unbiased ethical media and right administrators in various sporting disciplines would shed light on the problems plaguing the country's sports and bring about positive change*
*Does the media adequately protect sports, or does their bias play a role? *
*The dispute continues in Zimbabwe, but the truth is fairly straightforward. We should learn from other countries' examples of ethical and balanced sports reporting.*
*This means not getting compensated for setting agendas, reporting, and generating content that helps specific individuals. What have we got in Zimbabwe*?*The "Fadza Mutengi syndrome," brown envelope journalism, and the "Mbinga syndrome" None of them have any value in sports other than personal gain.*
*Zimbabwe formerly had a dynamic and rich sporting growth that was supported by an unbiased media capable of reporting on the evils that were causing the country's sports development to die. These days, the same media and numerous sports administrators are lying inactive, twiddling their thumbs as various ills are imposed in various sports. Yes, there are restricted laws and, in some cases, intervention from their superiors, but it does not change the fact that ethics are ethics.*
*Take South Africa as an example. Their football president, Danny Jordaan, was recently arrested on charges of fraud and theft, but in this country, cases like these are ignored because the administrators who would have caused the problems silence the media that could have revealed them.*
*Here in Zimbabwe for example when we were dealing with Asiagate, cracks emerged within various boards over how to deal with punishments to be meted out to those found guilty in the scandal.** The Justice Ebrahim Independent Ethics Committee that was set up by Zifa had recommended that individuals, whom they accused of being at the forefront of the match-fixing scandal, be slapped with life bans from all football related activities but surprisingly, a militant section of the then football leadership resisted the calls for reprimands and we saw total banishments but asiagate had happened.*
*Ironically, the media and admins did not take any measures to deal with this ill that contributed to the death of football that once flourished in the country.*
*Its high time we should stop shedding crocodile tears when things go wrong in various sports. We are the victims of our own inefficiency.*
