Munjoma, who recently returned to Zimbabwe, claims her mother, Rose Chishiri, is responsible for a series of disturbing spiritual attacks on her family. Speaking to Herald, Munjoma said she is now at her breaking point and has decided to leave her daughters—aged 15, 12, and 10—at her mother’s rural homestead in Chigodora as a form of protest. “I’m tired. My children are being spiritually tormented, and I can no longer protect them. I’m leaving them with their grandmother so she can deal with the consequences,” she said, visibly distressed. According to Munjoma, the children suffer from night terrors, report sightings of ritualistic activity near their home, and have begun expressing suicidal thoughts. “They scream at night saying they see strange people performing rituals outside. There’s always snuff and ashes by the gate,” she claimed. She further alleges that her eldest daughter began displaying erratic behavior at school, including verbally abusing teachers and impersonating her own guardians. The situation has led to the children dropping out of school, which Munjoma attributes to persistent “spiritual attacks.” In an interview, Munjoma’s eldest daughter corroborated her mother’s claims, saying she frequently sees snakes around their home and sometimes wakes up struggling to breathe. “It feels like something heavy is sitting on my chest,” she said. Despite the gravity of the allegations, Chishiri has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. She insists the problems stem from her daughter’s past actions while living in Botswana. “Maybe she acquired charms or joined something herself. Whatever is happening now is coming from her, not me,” she told reporters. Chishiri also accused her daughter of abandoning the children in the past, stating she raised them from infancy while Munjoma lived abroad. “If I had bad intentions, why would I have cared for them all these years?” she asked. She acknowledged accompanying Munjoma to various traditional healers and religious prophets in the past but claims she withdrew after feeling overwhelmed. “That’s when she turned against me, accusing me of witchcraft because I refused to continue.” The family’s feud has now been brought before Chief Mutambara’s traditional court, although Chishiri and her relatives have refused to attend hearings. Community members, including neighbor Blessing Maziti, have observed long-standing tension between the two, with earlier conflicts centering around family secrets. “It’s not the first time Tatenda has had issues with her mother. Previously, she accused her of hiding the identity of her biological father,” said Maziti. “It’s clear that this family needs urgent intervention.” Munjoma remains adamant that her mother must take responsibility and remove the alleged supernatural forces she believes are tormenting them. “I’ve tried everything. Even my family has rejected me for speaking out, but I won’t stop until I get help for my children,” she said.
