This comes as police have intensified nationwide operations targeting drug syndicates and illegal substance peddlers, following a surge in cases of drug abuse, particularly among youths. Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the suspect arrived at the home of Josephine Tinarwo (55) to deliver a consignment of Broncleer cough syrup when detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics moved in to arrest her. “She swallowed some of the drugs she had brought upon noticing police presence,” said Nyathi. “The suspect was taken to Chitungwiza Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon admission.” Earlier that day, police arrested Tinarwo after receiving a tip-off about her involvement in drug trafficking. During questioning, she implicated Hezel Titya (39) and another accomplice, leading to the fatal delivery attempt. Commissioner Nyathi confirmed the incident and warned drug dealers that police are tightening the net. “This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers and desperation surrounding drug trafficking. The Zimbabwe Republic Police is determined to rid communities of drugs and substance abuse.” Meanwhile, police arrested five more suspects; Grace Tagara (41), Betha Paakanengwa (31), Tadiwanashe Mandisodza (21), Patience Sithole, and Rumbidzai Hlabiso (32) at Mbare Cabins and Redwing Mine in Penhalonga for unlawful possession of dagga and Aliviador pills, and for selling alcohol without a liquor licence.
