*Airtime Vendor Sues Police Bosses, Minister for $40K Over Unlawful Arrest* Michael Zumba, a Masvingo-based airtime vendor, is suing Police Commissioner General Stephen Mutamba, Home Affairs Minister Kazembe Kazembe, and two officers — Constable Dzingirai and Constable Mabheka — for US$40,000 over what he describes as an unlawful and traumatic arrest. Zumba spent 27 days in prison after being accused of illegally dealing in foreign currency. However, a Masvingo magistrate later acquitted him, ruling there was “no basis at all” for the arrest. At the time of his arrest, Zumba had just R20 and US$20 on him — with no evidence linking him to any illegal currency trading. Tragically, Zumba was only released after the death of his two-year-old daughter, following a plea to allow him to attend her funeral. Now, he is demanding compensation for wrongful detention, emotional distress, and reputational damage.
