*Narrated Ibn `Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him and his father):* The Prophet (ﷺ) said, " *No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijjah)*." Then some companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Not even Jihad?" He replied, " *Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allah's sake) and does not return with any of those things.*" حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَرْعَرَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏"‏ مَا الْعَمَلُ فِي أَيَّامِ الْعَشْرِ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ فِي هَذِهِ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالُوا وَلاَ الْجِهَادُ قَالَ ‏"‏ وَلاَ الْجِهَادُ، إِلاَّ رَجُلٌ خَرَجَ يُخَاطِرُ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ بِشَىْءٍ ‏"‏‏.‏ Sahih al-Bukhari 969 *NOTES 📝* 1. From the mercy of Allah is in granting His servants special, blessed days where rewards are multiplied and great virtues are attained. Among these are the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, which are considered the most superior days of the year. The Prophet ﷺ highlighted this in this hadith under review, showing that righteous deeds performed during these days carry greater reward than in other times of the year. These days surpass even the last ten days of Ramadhan in terms of their rewards. However, the last ten nights of Ramadhan are better, because they include Laylat al-Qadr ("the Night of Decree"), which is better than a thousand months. Thus the various reports may be reconciled. (See Tafsir Ibn Kathir, 5/412). 2. Allah swears an oath by these 1st ten days, and swearing an oath by something is indicative of its importance and great benefit. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "By the dawn; by the ten nights" (Surah al-Fajr, 89, ayah 1 - 2). Ibn ‘Abbaas, Ibn al-Zubayr, Mujaahid and others of the earlier and later generations said that this refers to the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah. Ibn Kathir said: "This is the correct opinion." (Tafsir Ibn Kathir). 3. The hadith ynder review also illustrates the immense honor of martyrdom in the path of Allah, involving both sacrifice of life and wealth, as it represents the highest level of striving in Allah’s cause. However, it notes that good deeds done during these ten days, though seemingly lesser, can surpass even such noble acts due to the superiority of the time. This shows that virtuous actions performed in blessed periods are elevated in reward beyond similar deeds done at other times. *O Allah, accept the Hajj of the pilgrims, forgive their sins, and return them safely.
