POSITION: SKILLS CENTRE MANAGER
Who we are:
Hope4Development is a Malawian NGO (number: TMBRS 1013380, NGO Board registration No: NGO/L/22/025) founded in 2021 with a passion for educating and equipping young people so that they can escape the poverty trap.
Our vision is to relieve local poverty and to glorify God. Our values are:
Hope, Excellence, Active, Responsible and Trustworthy (HEART altogether).
The Objectives of Hope4Development:
1. To prevent or reduce poverty in rural communities in Malawi by investing in educational and other projects which aim to improve children and youths’ learning environments.
2. To promote education and vocational training for children and youth under 25 years.
3. To advance Christian faith in the communities for the edification and religious advancement of the peoples in the communities.
4. To conduct studies, research and consultancy and advisory assignments in education and religion.
5. To develop and implement innovative and imaginative ways or methods of learning and teaching.
What we do:
We work with 4 government primary schools and one secondary school near Mpemba and Chadzunda, providing:
Facilities
Literacy and library support
Assemblies
Feeding programmes
Healthy Living programmes
Learning resources
We also provide bursaries, mentoring, and discipleship for secondary and tertiary education for local students.
At our Skills Centre, we:
Farm sustainably
Have tailoring and bicycle workshops
Have IT infrastructure
Provide training opportunities for local students, school leavers and the community
Run a Youth Development Programme (YDP) training up to 30 secondary school leavers per year in:
Faith development
Character development
Vocational and business skills
Main responsibilities:
Ensure the aims and values of the organization (including strong Christian teaching and discipleship) remain central to all activities
Manage programme work with the coordinators team, delivering agreed objectives
Operate a robust performance review and development process for all staff
Lead strategic work with directors to identify, build and resource new programmes, including fundraising within Malawi
Build and maintain good relationships with local and governmental stakeholders
Ensure compliance with NGO policies and legal regulations
Oversee assets and premises maintenance and responsible use by staff and community
Provide directors with impact assessments and suggestions for improvements
Other responsibilities as agreed with the directors
Reports to: The Directors of Hope4Development
Place of Work: Hope Skills Centre, next to Chimwembe FP, Jana Village, T/A Somba
Remuneration: Negotiable based on qualifications and experience (includes pension and MASM)

Person specification:
Committed Christian aligned with Evangelical Alliance statement of faith (www.ea.org.au/our-belief)
Desire to see rural development in Malawi
Good MSCE or equivalent with credits in English and Maths
Tertiary education qualification or equivalent
Fluent in English and Chichewa (spoken and written)
Resourceful, creative, and good common sense
Proven leadership, motivation, and team management skills
Able to plan, report, and communicate clearly
Good at relationship management with local and educational stakeholders
Computer literate (Word, Excel, Presentation software)
Strong work ethic, punctual, and excellent time management
Financially accountable and wise with resources
Willingness to learn and share knowledge
Preferred experience:
Teaching/training
People leadership
Project management
Business experience
Contract type: Fixed-term or permanent considered
