It has been an absolute honour to host Maj Gen Ian Cardozo, AVSM, SM — a legendary warrior whose courage redefined the limits of human will.
A veteran of the 1962, 1965, and 1971 India-Pakistan wars, he made history during the Battle of Sylhet in the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. After stepping on a landmine and with no medical help available, he amputated his own leg using a khukri — a moment that remains etched in military history.
But that was only the beginning.
He went on to become the first disabled officer to command a battalion in the Indian Army, proving that true leadership is powered by the mind and spirit, not just the body.
He is also the acclaimed author of: 📘 Param Vir: Our Heroes in Battle
📘 1965: Turning the Tide
📘 The Sinking of INS Khukri
In this special episode of Monks & Warriors, we uncover untold war stories, leadership lessons, and the unshakeable love for the nation that shaped “Cartoos Saab.”
