SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR BARBADOS FOR WINDY CONDITIONS The Atlantic high-pressure system has generated strong winds across Barbados' marine area and has prompted the Barbados Meteorological Services to issue a SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY. Possible Impacts Large open water swells can be hazardous to some vessels. The operation of smaller vessels can be difficult at times due to large swells. Possible loss of life or injury. What you should do Marine users are encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further information on what to do. Discussion As the Atlantic high-pressure system remains dominant, Barbados and its surrounding marine area will experience brisk, sustained wind speeds up to 25 knots (45 km/h). The constant agitation due to the strong winds will increase swell heights to prompt an advisory being issued. General Information A Small Craft Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) are affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 36 hours. This Small Craft Advisory will be updated/terminated at 6:00 p.m., Sunday, June 22, or sooner if conditions warrant. For more information specific to your area, please visit https://www.barbadosweather.org/marineBarResp.php, the BMS' social media pages, or call its hotline at 976-2376 or office at 535-0022.
