In a major boost to Indiaโs aquaculture sector, the AGRICULTURE INSURANCE COMPANY OF INDIA LIMITED (AIC) has launched a brand-new insurance product โ โAquaculture Insuranceโ โ aimed at protecting fish farmers from natural disasters, diseases, and other risks.
The launch event, held in New Delhi, was attended by key dignitaries including M. Nagraju (Secretary, Finance Service Department), Dr. Prashant Kumar Goel (Joint Secretary), Dr. Lavanya R. Mundayur (CMD, AIC), along with Directors Dasrathi Singh and C.S. Ayyapan.
Dr. Lavanya highlighted that the scheme will bring relief to fish rearers and promote growth in the aquaculture sector. This initiative shows AICโs deep commitment to the welfare of fish farmers.
The insurance will cover key species like:
Rohu
Katla
Mrigal
Silver and Grass Carp
Murrel
Pangasius
Trout
This coverage will help farmers bounce back from challenges such as disease outbreaks, floods, and losses โ strengthening food security and enabling exports.
AIC also recently introduced Zingha Insurance to benefit farmers engaged in Zingha (prawn) farming. Together, these two products aim to empower small and marginal fish farmers across the country.
Fish farmers can now raise their yield confidently with insurance protection in place.
