Sometimes I wonder if we truly understand our worth as a people. As an Igala man from Omala Local Government, I’ve had the privilege of meeting many of my brothers and sisters from Ankpa LGA — one of the largest and most populated local governments in Kogi State. One thing I’ve noticed is how proud they are of their town. And honestly, I don’t blame them. Ankpa is a place with so much potential — large in size, rich in population, and filled with educated individuals. But then again, I ask myself: how can such a promising place still be without stable electricity? How can a local government that is home to some of the most literate minds in Kogi still lack good roads, basic infrastructure, and tangible development? It’s painful because the same people who suffer from this lack are the same ones fiercely defending the same politicians who continue to fail them. They gather, they cheer, they vote — yet, they demand so little. And I think I understand why: many of them haven’t traveled beyond the state. They haven’t seen what true development looks like in other parts of Nigeria. Studying here in Jigawa, I’ve witnessed firsthand how even a relatively less talked about state is making serious strides in infrastructure, electricity, and public welfare. It makes you wonder: what exactly is stopping a local government as resourceful and influential as Ankpa from experiencing the same? The truth is, it’s not just about politicians failing us. It’s also about the people not knowing how much they deserve — how much they should ask for. When you’ve never seen better, you assume what you have is the best there is. But it’s time we wake up. It’s time we stop clapping for mediocrity. It’s time our people — especially from places like Ankpa that play a decisive role in Igala politics — begin to ask tough questions, make real demands, and hold leaders accountable. Loyalty should never come before progress. Our love for our town should push us to fight for better, not settle for less. #kogiglobalmedia #kogistate #kogi #igalablood #igalaforever #igalatribe
