Sanganai/Hlanganani 2025—dubbed *Kumbanayi*—will be hosted in Manicaland Province’s capital, Mutare, marking a historic shift from previous editions traditionally held in Harare and Bulawayo. Organised by ZTA — Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, the expo is the Great Republic of Zimbabwe’s premier international tourism exhibition and Africa’s foremost business exchange platform for the tourism industry. Following a recent policy directive, the event will now rotate annually across the country’s ten Provinces, with Mutare becoming the first host city under this new approach. Richway Guesthouses currently operates four locations in the City of Mutare: 8 Dawson Street, 13 Runde Crescent, 28 Eurodrome Road (all in Yeovil), and 8 Browning Close in Fairbridge Park, offering a total of 40 rooms. Renovations are underway ahead of the expo, and a fifth location is in development. Makore’s long-term strategy includes building a hotel as part of his five-year expansion plan. Mr Makore, who is the Provincial Chairperson of the Manicaland Chamber of Small to Medium Enterprises and Vice-Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Chamber of Small to Medium Enterprises, described the upcoming expo as a defining moment for Manicaland-based businesses. “The economic revolution under the Leadership of HE President Dr ED Mnangagwa has created an environment where young businesspeople like myself can thrive. The ‘Zimbabwe is Open for Business’ mantra is not just a slogan—it’s a reality that has allowed us to expand and contribute to the Province’s growth.” His business outlook has also been broadened by international exposure. At the end of 2024, Makore visited India where he explored new frontiers in technology and entrepreneurship. “India has given us an opportunity to see what they offer in terms of machinery and technology and have further agreed to train our SMEs in business skills and technology transfer. I have benefited from the knowledge and access to various machines they offer. Their tourism industry is vibrant and I have gained immense knowledge from that sector. Their medical sector is very good and attracts a lot of visitors seeking treatment from all over the world. Their construction industry also offers a lot of items we can use in our buildings like hardware, plumbing and electricals.” Hon Advocate Misheck ‘Pakuru’ Mugadza, who is both the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in the Office of the President and Cabinet and Member of Parliament for Mutasa South Constituency, said the decision to bring the tourism expo to Mutare reflects President Mnangagwa’s push to decentralise development through the Devolution agenda. “This event is a Presidential priority under the Second Republic’s Devolution agenda. By bringing Sanganai/Hlanganani/Kwambanayi to Mutare, we are decentralising economic growth and empowering local businesses like Kudzai Makore’s guest houses, which exemplify the success of our policies.” ZANU PF Provincial Chair and Political Premier for Manicaland Province, Cde Tawanda ‘Gomoguru’ Mukodza, commended the momentum behind local entrepreneurship. “Under the Leadership of HE President Dr ED Mnangagwa, we are witnessing the rise of young entrepreneurs who were previously marginalized.
