The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (a state-funded foundation that promotes academic exchange at the postdoctoral and advanced levels) funds fellowship for a research stay at Trier for a duration of up to two years (plus one year for scholars with Children; the Fellowship might be split in different Research stays). The funding is generous and tax-free. The Foundation is prestigious, and only funds academic excellence.
Funding for postdocs (up to 4 years after completion of the PhD):
2700 € / month, plus a mobility allowance, a family allowance, a social care allowance, German courses, and plus the possibility to apply for a 500 € subsidy for research costs. (all this is tax-free)
Funding for “experienced researchers” (4-12 years after completion of the PhD):
3200 € / month, plus a mobility allowance, a family allowance, a social care allowance, German courses, and plus a possibility to apply for a 500 € subsidy for research costs. (all this is tax-free)
The candidate
1. must be a woman (the Foundation makes that a condition for the first fellowship; but in about six months, an application by male scholars will also be possible);
2. should have a PhD or be just about to finish her PhD;
3. should have a strong record of Publications in comparison to her career stage
4. should have obtained neither her PhD degree from a German institution, nor a long-term scholarship or fellowship in Germany after her PhD, nor a fellowship of the Humboldt Foundation; she should not have the German citizenship;
5. should have expertise in Digital Humanities / Digital History and should be interested in (interdisciplinary) work with historians.
