Press Release Date: 19th June 2025 Brutal Killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing Condemned: A Heinous Act of Violence Against the Kuki Community The Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR) strongly condemns the brutal and cold-blooded killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing Haokip, wife of Mr.Khaikhogin Haokip the village chief of Langchingmanbi, who was shot dead by Meitei militants on the evening of 19th June 2025 at Langchingmanbi, Lamka. This horrific incident is yet another grim reminder of the ongoing ethnic cleansing and targeted violence against the Kuki people. Despite the presence of a government-declared buffer zone intended to prevent clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities, Meitei militants have repeatedly violated and crossed the buffer line, provoking tensions and directly endangering the lives of innocent civilians. The killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing is not an isolated incident but a systematic failure of the state to enforce neutrality and protect the Kuki population. The government’s silence and inaction despite repeated trespasses by the Meiteis into Kuki territory is unacceptable. The buffer zone has become meaningless if only one side respects its boundaries. We demand: 1. Immediate arrest and punishment of the perpetrators involved in the killing of Mrs. Hoikholhing. 2. Strict enforcement of the buffer zone, with equal accountability on both sides. 3. Deployment of neutral central forces to ensure peace and prevent further provocations. 4. A judicial inquiry into the incident and all recent buffer zone violations. KWOHR reiterates its commitment to protecting the rights, dignity, and lives of Kuki women and civilians. We call upon national and international human rights bodies, media, and civil society to take serious note of the ongoing atrocities and urge the government to act immediately and impartially.
