*Workshop and Webinar Recap — Towards ‘Strengthening Disability-Inclusive Disaster Preparedness and Humanitarian Action in India’ by NDMA and UN India: Working for Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction and Universally Accessible Humanitarian Action in India*
_"Elated to have represented the common concerns of the disability community and contributed meaningfully to India’s national momentum towards disability-inclusive disaster preparedness and humanitarian actions. From moderating and facilitating the Pre-Workshop Dialogue (27 May 2025) and contributing to the National Online Consultation on the Minimum Preparedness Standards (30 May 2025) to co-moderating and presenting at the Co-Creation Workshop at NDMA HQ (4–5 June 2025) — this has been an incredibly enriching journey of policy, participation, and partnership. As the Moderator and Facilitator for the pre-workshop webinar, I set the stage for cross-sector dialogue, surfacing systemic gaps and co-identifying inclusive pathways forward. During the National Consultation, I provided comments and live inputs on the draft National Minimum Preparedness Standards for Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Action, shaped by the lived experiences of persons with disabilities, OPDs, and humanitarian actors. At the Co-Creation Workshop, I co-led the opening session, presented the pre-dialogue synthesis, and contributed to developing the Action Plan — especially as part of the working group on Inclusive Coordination and Partnerships, where I presented our collective recommendations to broader stakeholders concerned and involved. The two-day national workshop, hosted by NDMA and the United Nations in India (with UNICEF India as technical lead), served as an effective step toward embedding equity, accessibility, and accountability in disaster governance. The key outputs included a draft Action Plan aligned with the NDMP 2019, focused on inclusive risk assessments, accessible communication, assistive technology, disability-disaggregated data, and systemic OPD leadership, based on the principles of 'Nothing Without Us' and 'Leave No One Behind'. Most importantly, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)INDIA reaffirmed its institutional commitment to disability inclusion through initiatives such as the proposed Disability-Inclusive DRR War Room, Disability-inclusive mock drills, and a roadmap for disability-disaggregated data in emergencies. I am optimistic that this endeavour shall contribute to catalyzing, nudging and triggering sustainable changes and strengthening Disability-Inclusive Disaster Preparedness and Humanitarian Action in India through an all-inclusive and universally accessible disaster action plan, strategies, preparedness and response mechanism."_
