In part of his discussion on Hajj, Imam ibn Rajab al-Hanbali wrote: [قيل للحسن: الحج المبرور جزاؤه الجنة؟ قال: آية ذلك: أن يرجع زاهدا في الدنيا راغبا في الآخرة وقيل له: جزاء الحج المغفرة؟ قال: آية ذلك: أن يدع سيء ما كان عليه] Someone asked al-Hasan al-Basri, "Is the reward for a righteous Hajj Jannah?" al-Hasan replied, "A sign of that is that he return being detached from worldly things, interested in the hereafter."
