The world is full of differences, and everyone claims to be upon the truth. Some people are simply more eloquent in presenting their argument than others, and this can cause matters to become confusing for a person. How much, then, do we need the guidance of Ar-Raḥmān (the Most Merciful)! So be diligent in making abundant du‘ā, asking Allāh to guide you to the truth in matters where people differ. Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf said: I asked ʿĀ’ishah, the Mother of the Believers: “With what would the Prophet ﷺ begin his prayer when he stood for night prayer?” She replied: “When he would rise for prayer at night, he would begin with: ‘O Allāh, Lord of Jibrīl, Mīkā’īl, and Isrāfīl, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen. You judge between Your servants regarding that wherein they differ. So guide me, by Your permission, to the truth in that which they differ.
