Global winds are large-scale wind patterns that circulate around the Earth due to the uneven heating of the planet by the Sun and the rotation of the Earth. These winds are critical in influencing weather patterns and ocean currents.
Main Global Wind Belts:
🌍 1. Trade Winds (Tropical Easterlies)
Location: 0° to 30° latitude (both hemispheres)
Direction: Blow from the east toward the west
🌍 2. Westerlies
Location: 30° to 60° latitude
Direction: Blow from the west toward the east
🌍 3. Polar Easterlies
Location: 60° to 90° latitude
Direction: Blow from the east toward the west
🌡️ Why Global Winds Exist?
- Uneven solar heating
- Coriolis effect
- Pressure zones
