*How ChatGPT Is Ruining Your Ability To Think - _new MIT study_*
MIT recently conducted a fascinating study:
54 students were asked to write essays across four sessions—
using either:
🔹 Just their brain
🔹 Google Search
🔹 GPT-4o (ChatGPT)
But halfway through, they *flipped tools* .
Those who began solo were switched to GPT.
GPT-first users had to write without it.
Meanwhile, researchers tracked 32 brain regions using EEG to observe real-time activity.
Here’s what they found 👇
1. Reduced deep thinking with AI-only writing
Brain regions linked to *critical thinking* showed the lowest activity in GPT-only sessions.
*Users starting with their brain and then using GPT actually showed enhanced brain-wide connectivity.*
But those who began with AI and tried to finish solo, their thinking patterns flatlined.
2. Long-term cost
Over time, GPT-dependent writers started repeating predictable phrases.
When asked to write without AI again, they struggled to match the creativity they once had.
Researchers called this *cognitive debt* :
.
.
So here’s the question:
If you keep using AI to *start* your thinking… Are you actually learning or just restructuring words that aren't yours?
React with your answer-
😘 – I try to think first, use AI later
