Assalamu 'Alaikum Warahmatullāhi Wabarakathu *29th of Dhul-Qi'dah, 1446 (27th of May, 2025)* *Yaomul-Thulāthā (Tuesday)* *THE PROHIBITION OF TRIMMING NAILS OR HAIR AT THE START OF DHUL-HIJJAH* Umm Salamah (may ALLĀH be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: *"When you see the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah, and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain from ˹removing anything˺ from his hair or nails."* *📚 Muslim #1977* According to another version: *"Let him not remove anything of his hair or skin."* *LESSONS AND BENEFITS* 1️⃣. If the onset of Dhu’l-Hijjah is confirmed, it's haram for a person intending to sacrifice to remove hair, cut nails, or alter any skin. 2️⃣. This ruling also applies to women making sacrifices for themselves, regardless of marital status, as there is no distinction between men and women in the hadith. 3️⃣. This ruling applies only to the one offering the sacrifice, not to their family or the appointed slaughterer. The wife, children, and deputy are not forbidden from these things. 4️⃣. Sheikh Salih al-Fawzān said: *"Whoever took from his hair what is permissible to remove, or his nails during the beginning of the Ten Days because he did not intend to sacrifice but then he intended to do so during the Ten Days, he should refrain starting from the time he has the intention."* {Ahadith About Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah, p.18} 5️⃣. Whoever removes anything from his hair or nails while he intends to offer a sacrifice does not have to offer any ransom, but he has to repent and seek forgiveness. Ibn Qudāmah said: *"...If he does that (removes hair, nail or skin), he should ask ALLĀH for forgiveness, but he does not have to offer any fidyah, according to scholarly consensus, whether he did that deliberately or out of forgetfulness."* {Al-Mughni, (9/346)} 6️⃣. Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymīn said: *"If a person needs to remove anything from his hair, nails or skin, then there is no blame on him for removing it, such as if he has a wound and he needs to trim the hair from around it, or if he breaks an nail and it bothers him, so he trims whatever is bothering him, or if he has a piece of dead skin and it is bothering him, so he cuts it off. There is no blame on him in any of these cases."* {Majmū‘ Fatāwa Ibn ‘Uthaymīn (25/161)} 7️⃣. Al-Shawkani said: *"The reason behind this prohibition is so that all parts will remain to be ransomed from the Fire, or it was said that it is so that he will resemble the one who is in ihram. Both views were narrated by al-Nawawi, but he narrated from the companions of al-Shafi'i that the second view is a mistake, because ˹the person who wants to offer a sacrifice˺ does not keep away from women or stop putting on perfume or wearing regular clothes, and other things which the person in ihram refrains from."* {Nayl al-Awtar (5/13)} We ask ALLĀH to make us of those who will reach the blessed month of Dhul-Hijjah and grant us the ability to do acceptable righteous deeds in it. *NB: Confirm the start of Dhul-Hijjah with your local Islamic centre. It will begin in Nigeria after Maghrib on the evening of May 27th or 28th, depending on moonsighting.* *RECITE MORNING ADHKAR:* Text - http://bit.ly/2XCkH83 Video - https://t.me/alBaseeroh/2498 The Prophet (ﷺ)said:*“I command you to remember ALLĀH. Verily, the parable of that is a man who goes forth while his enemies are fast upon him, and then he comes to a safe fortress, where he protects himself from them. In the same way, a servant will not protect himself against Shaytān except by the dhikr of ALLĀH.”* {Tirmidhi} *Albaseerah Whatsapp Channel👇* https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaAkbri1iUxUWYgGO60c
