Mariska Hargitay “lived a lie” for 30 years. Now she’s embracing her mother, Jayne Mansfield—and her biological father. Kathy Bates is in the midst of a career renaissance. Just before signing on to CBS’s ‘Matlock’ at the top of 2023, the Academy Award winner felt “invisible,” maybe even done with acting. Opportunities were dwindling. She wondered if she should sell her house and leave LA. But the series soon evolved into a hell of a showcase for Bates—the actor, long known for her tremendous range, gets to run the gamut. When the series premiered, Bates said that ‘Matlock’ would be her “last dance,” which resulted in an outpouring of public affection. “It’s the affirmation of a career that hasn’t always been up here with the A-team going to Ibiza or whatever, you know?” she tells VF’s David Canfield. For VF’s June issue, the legendary actor reflects on her wide-ranging career; how Hollywood has treated her appearance (“You’re not Michelle Pfeiffer”); and whether ‘Matlock’ really will be her swan song. The first season of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ was Hulu’s most watched unscripted premiere of 2024, launching all eight of its MomTok influencers into reality-TV stardom. In Season 2, their secrets are, well, not so secret. VF’s Savannah Walsh catches up with the cast about the toll the series has taken on their mental health, their families, and their relationships with each other: “It was really hurtful to know that someone could throw away a friendship because of money.” Read more: https://vanityfair.visitlink.me/sR9qyN

Hamptonites are learning that, under Trump 2.0, every rosé has its thorn. Rosé is to summer in the Hamptons what hockey is to Canada in the winter—drinking it is practically the town sport. But the threat of higher tariffs has restaurant owners scrambling to stock up on the summer staple in bulk before an even steeper import tax takes hold. “We might not even have [rosé] by July,” one business owner tells VF contributing writer Stephanie Krikorian. “People would be up in arms.” Read more: https://vanityfair.visitlink.me/asaN7H

Allow Scarlett Johansson to reintroduce herself. Johansson’s career in front of the camera spans three decades and numerous projects. The Oscar nominee has endured much scrutiny and objectification, including from the press (“They were staring at my lips that whole time? That’s so rude.”), and has navigated a controversy or two. But at 40, the ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ star is ready to level up—and take a seat in the director’s chair. “There is absolutely no shit about her at all. Who she is is who you’re getting all the time,” says June Squibb, the star of Johansson’s first feature as a director, ‘Eleanor the Great.’ “I think Scarlett enjoys being Scarlett.” In VF’s June cover story, Johansson discusses her potential retaliation against SNL’s Michael Che, why she wishes more celebrities would speak out about the dangers of AI, and working with Bill Murray on ‘Lost in Translation’: “Everybody was on tenterhooks around him.” Read the full interview: https://vanityfair.visitlink.me/BiDNLv
