On May 21, 2022, history was made. I became the first Independent—and the first Australian of Vietnamese refugee background—to win the seat of Fowler, one of Labor’s safest strongholds. This week, on May 22, 2025, that history deepened. The Australian Electoral Commission officially declared my re-election, marking not just a personal milestone, but a powerful message from our community. While the rest of the country swung towards the Labor Government, Fowler chose to stay with an Independent voice. A voice born from lived experience—of war, of escape, of refugee camps—and one that has stood firmly for our families, our small businesses, and our future. To be re-elected with a swing towards me, at a time when the tide flowed the other way, speaks volumes. It says our community values independence. It says we want representation, not politics. Happy Lunar New Year to those who mark this important occasion. Today is the start of the Lunar Calendar, and it’s the year of the snake, the wooden snake. And according to Chinese Zodiac the snake is a sacred symbol that represents auspiciousness, wisdom, intelligence and lunch. It’s also associated with wealth, authority and longevity. It’s an honour to represent our strong, caring and connected community here in Fowler. Together, we have faced challenges, celebrated wins, and supported one another. As we step into this new year, I feel hopeful about what we can achieve together. My promise to you remains simple: I will listen to you, work hard for you, and continue to stand up for our community. As it’s also election year, I want you to know that I will be seeking your support for my re-election- an independent voice who works for you. Once again, wishing you a Blessed and Happy New Year.
