On May 21, 2022, history was made. I became the first Independent—and the first Australian of Vietnamese refugee background—to win the seat of Fowler, one of Labor’s safest strongholds. This week, on May 22, 2025, that history deepened. The Australian Electoral Commission officially declared my re-election, marking not just a personal milestone, but a powerful message from our community. While the rest of the country swung towards the Labor Government, Fowler chose to stay with an Independent voice. A voice born from lived experience—of war, of escape, of refugee camps—and one that has stood firmly for our families, our small businesses, and our future. To be re-elected with a swing towards me, at a time when the tide flowed the other way, speaks volumes. It says our community values independence. It says we want representation, not politics.
