It was a pleasure to welcome President Santiago Peña on his State Visit to Singapore — the first ever by a President of Paraguay. Though our countries are geographically distant, Singapore and Paraguay share many similarities. We are both small states navigating a complex world, surrounded by larger neighbours, and committed to multilateralism and free trade. I hope President Peña’s visit will open new avenues for cooperation and foster stronger ties between our peoples. In an increasingly uncertain world, it is vital that like-minded countries continue to work together.

Caught up with Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit. I congratulated him on chairing a successful summit. Malaysia has been an energetic and effective ASEAN Chair. We will continue to work closely with Malaysia to advance ASEAN integration efforts. PM Anwar and I also took stock of various bilateral issues. I look forward to welcoming him to Singapore later this week to deliver a Special Address at the Shangri-La Dialogue.
I had a fruitful meeting with President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit. We discussed global and regional developments, and the importance of a strong and united ASEAN in these turbulent times. We also look forward to closer bilateral cooperation. The longstanding relationship between Singapore and Indonesia has served as an anchor of stability against geopolitical headwinds.
